A Sophisticated Space

To create a contemporary, child-friendly outdoor space that includes a pool, various levels, a pool house, and plenty of patio space for entertaining.

• The main challenge was providing adequate drainage for the hardscapes without compromising the design or visibility.
• Ensuring the drainage system was tied together and managed seamlessly, in line with the client's request, rather than relying on the builder.

• The grade entrance was dug by us to ensure proper drainage and to guarantee it was seamlessly integrated. Once this was completed, the builder constructed the masoned grade entrance walls and steps.
• Hidden drainage for the hardscapes was installed beneath artificial turf strips using several slit drains to maintain a clean and modern look.
• The 18'x38' pool was designed with a wrap-around bench at the end nearest the pool house and custom entry steps and bench at the opposite end, closest to the house.
• The spa was positioned separately from the pool, near the covered porch for easy winter access.
• Artificial turf was strategically used to soften the ample hardscapes, with strips placed to complement the contemporary layout.
• Planters and a raised fire feature were designed to give the illusion of a "sunken" pool area, even though it is not.
• A variety of hardscapes were incorporated to create visual interest and complement the overall design.
• The pool house serves as the central feature of the backyard, offering a large bar, lounge area with television, full dining area, and an exercise bike zone. The entire building was elevated one step above grade to enhance the "sunken" pool effect.
• Low-voltage lighting was installed to ensure the space is inviting and enjoyable at all times of the day or night.
